Anaheim is a busy sports town at every level, from adult leagues at the community fields to high school programmes to people simply training hard at the gym. The injuries that come out of it follow predictable patterns: shoulders from overhead sport, hamstrings and groins from sprinting, knees from cutting, and low backs from lifting technique that slipped under fatigue.

The mistake most people make is returning as soon as it stops hurting. Pain settles well before tissue capacity comes back, which is exactly why re-injury rates are highest in the first few weeks after returning.

Common presentations

  • Hamstring, calf or groin strains from sprinting or cutting
  • Shoulder pain from throwing, swimming or overhead pressing
  • Runner's knee, IT band pain and shin splints
  • Ankle sprains that keep recurring
  • Low back pain from squatting and deadlifting
  • Tennis and golfer's elbow and other overuse tendon pain

What care looks like

The exam establishes what is injured, what grade it is, and just as importantly what movement fault caused it. A recurring ankle sprain is usually a proprioception problem, and a strained hamstring often traces back to hip mechanics that never got addressed.

Early care focuses on settling the tissue: soft tissue work, joint mobilisation where movement is restricted, and load management that keeps you doing what you can rather than resting completely.

The second half is loading. Progressive strengthening of the injured tissue and whatever was compensating for it, with objective return-to-play criteria rather than a date on a calendar. You should know what you have to be able to do before you are cleared.

Common questions

Sports Injury questions

How soon can I get back to training?

It depends on tissue and grade, but the honest framing is criteria-based rather than time-based. You go back when you can meet strength, movement and sport-specific tests, which for a moderate muscle strain is typically three to six weeks.

Should I keep training through it?

Usually you modify rather than stop. Complete rest deconditions everything else and lengthens the overall timeline. A specific list of what to keep doing is part of the plan.

Do you treat shoulders and knees, not just spines?

Yes. Chiropractic scope in California covers the extremities, and a large share of sports work is shoulders, hips, knees and ankles.

My child plays club sport. Is chiropractic care appropriate for teenagers?

Yes, with technique adapted for a growing skeleton. Growth plate injury is screened for specifically, because in adolescents it presents in ways that look like ordinary tendon pain in adults.
